Goat Farming Basics: Housing, Feed and Health
Simple rules for a clean, dry shed, balanced feed and early health care.
Goat farming is popular because goats adapt well and breed quickly. Success, however, depends on basics done daily. Goat farming is on our list of upcoming projects at the Kaliganj site.
Housing
Raise the floor off the ground (slatted or well-drained), keep the shed dry, airy and shaded, and give each animal enough space. Damp, crowded sheds cause most health problems.
Feed
- Fresh green fodder and good-quality hay as the base.
- A measured concentrate for growing or milking animals.
- Clean drinking water at all times and mineral supplement.
Health
Follow a vaccination and deworming schedule with a local veterinarian, quarantine new animals, and act quickly on loss of appetite or diarrhoea.
Records
Track birth dates, weights, breeding and treatments. Read about what else is planned in Inside Sun City M Farm.
