Seedless Lemon Farming: What Growers Should Know
Planting, feeding and pruning basics for lemon orchards, and the patience they need.
Lemon is a year-round kitchen staple, and seedless varieties are popular with buyers. Lemon (C3) and seedless lemon are both running at our Kaliganj farm.
Site and planting
Choose sunny, well-drained land. Dig pits ahead of time, fill them with soil mixed with compost, and plant grafted or healthy nursery plants at proper spacing.
Feeding and water
- Feed little and often through the year rather than once heavily.
- Water young trees regularly; mature trees need steady, not soggy, moisture.
- Mulch around the base to hold moisture and limit weeds.
Pruning and protection
Remove dry or crossing branches to let light in. Watch for leaf miner, canker and other common citrus problems and treat early.
Patience
Trees take time to reach full production. That is why we plan citrus as a long-term part of the farm, next to quicker crops. More about the farm in Inside Sun City M Farm.
